Artist Statement
As a dance artist, my work is inspired by the intricacies of linear and flexuous movement bonded by the connection through dancers. The purpose of my choreographic works are to showcase the lived experiences of the world around us. How can we break societal standards that are bestowed upon us from a young age and translate that through movement. Being able to use my past and use that as a means of working through the growing pains is the epitome of dance. I hold authenticity and individuality as the most important qualities of my work.
I generate movement with the concept of having a needle and thread weaving through shapes in the same way society presents itself. We have our expectations that we live up to but go on our journey to figure out who we’re meant to be. Through my movement, we are able to speak for ourselves. We share tales of values, beliefs, conformities, and human connection. We give ourselves to the audience as they carry a piece of us by the end.
